Darric Mitchell • December 2, 2019

Protecting your home from fire damage
should be your primary concern. During the holidays, when everything is hectic and you’re focused on family and cooking, fire safety is more important than ever. The kitchen is a big problem. Every year, we witness firsthand the destruction that a cooking fire can cause around the holidays.
Restoration 1 of Summit hopes to help homeowners like you reduce any risk of a cooking fire. Our holiday fire safety tips should help.
How Do Home Cooking Fires Get Started?
An astounding one-third of all home cooking fires and half of all fire-related deaths occur because of an unattended kitchen, according to the NFPA. These statistics are shocking.
In an effort to reduce these numbers annually, we’re teaching homeowners about fire safety. First things first. In the kitchen, remain alert and focus on the task at hand!
Easy Ways to Prevent Holiday Home Cooking Fires?
- Frying — Frying dominates the home cooking fire problem. If you plan to deep-fry a turkey, do so outdoors and at least ten feet from your home. Keep all children and pets back from the pot.
- Ovens — Your oven should be cleaned regularly and well-maintained. If there ever is an oven fire, keep the door closed and shut off the unit.
- Equipment — If you’re not using the toaster, bread maker or crockpot, unplug them. Do the same for any kitchen equipment not in use.
