- Decorations — String lights, candles, lead-based decorations, etc. These are all fire hazards in the home around the holidays.
- Cooking — When in the kitchen, wear tight-fitting clothing, clean up grease and keep children away from the stove.
- Fireplaces — Install a fire screen to prevent loose embers and only use appropriate fuel.

These and many more are holiday fire hazards that we must address. Lorraine Carli, vice president of NFPA’s Outreach and Advocacy division , put it best when she said, “By knowing where potential fire hazards exist and taking the needed steps to prevent them, people can enjoy the season’s celebrations and traditions while keeping their families, guests and homes safe.”
